Historic view of Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital, 1858

Early photographic documentation of Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, captured by photographer A. Ivanitski in 1858. The image shows the 11th-century cathedral with its characteristic conical dome and fortress walls, positioned on elevated terrain above the Mtkvari (Kura) River. Visible are the cathedral's medieval Georgian Orthodox architecture, surrounding fortifications, and residential structures at the base of the complex. This photograph represents important historical documentation of one of Georgia's most sacred religious sites during the Imperial Russian period. Original albumen print, 19 x 24 cm.
