Historic view of traditional Georgian architecture at the entrance to Tbilisi's Botanical Garden, 1858

One of the earliest photographic documents of Tbilisi's Botanical Garden area, captured by photographer A. Ivanitski in 1858. The image shows characteristic multi-story wooden houses with traditional Georgian balconies (sachnachebi) built into the steep hillside near the Tatar Cemetery. The photograph represents important documentation of mid-19th century urban architecture and the garden's early surroundings, just 13 years after the Botanical Garden's establishment in 1845. Original albumen print, 19 x 24 cm.
