Alexander Digmelov (1884–1957) worked in cinema from 1910, first producing short chronicle newsreel-style pieces. He later served as cinematographer for director Ivan Perestiani on films including The Red Imps, Three Lives, and Tariel Mklavadze. Among his best-known works are Arsena (1937), Giorgi Saakadze (1943), and Magdana’s Donkey (1956, co-shot with L. Sukhov). Digmelov also authored memoirs on the formative period of cinematography in Georgia.
The photographs presented from this archive represent only a small part of his extensive collection, which documents cinema production and the cultural environment of his era.
