Oliver Wardrop, British High Commissioner in the Caucasus, was a prominent supporter of Georgian independence and culture during the First Georgian Republic (1918–1921). A scholar of Georgian history and literature, Wardrop authored The Kingdom of Georgia (1888). His sister, Marjory Wardrop, translated Shota Rustaveli’s epic The Knight in the Panther’s Skin into English, contributing significantly to Western awareness of Georgian literary heritage. This portrait reflects the diplomatic and cultural connections between Britain and Georgia in the early 20th century.
