This photograph shows Golovin Prospect—today’s Rustaveli Avenue—in Tiflis during the late 19th century. The image captures the main urban artery of the city with a horse-drawn tram (konka) traveling along the unpaved street, accompanied by horse carriages and pedestrians.

Commercial buildings line both sides of the boulevard, including shops, pharmacies, and administrative offices typical of Tiflis during the Imperial Russian period. The photograph illustrates the rapid modernization of the city’s transport infrastructure and the vibrant street life of the capital of the Caucasus at the end of the nineteenth century.

Golovin Prospect was one of the most important streets of the city, connecting government institutions, theaters, and commercial establishments.
