Portrait of Aleksandre Sumbatashvili-Yuzhin (1857–1927), a prominent theatrical figure of Georgian origin who became widely known in the Russian theatrical world. The photograph was taken by P. Kosloff, a photographer active in Tiflis. Portraits such as this reflect the tradition of studio photography documenting cultural and intellectual figures of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
