Joseph Andronikashvili graduated from the Institute of Railway Engineering in St. Petersburg in 1881, where he also took up photography. He became a distinguished engineer and builder, constructing numerous roads throughout Georgia and serving as one of the principal builders of the Kakheti railway line.
An accomplished amateur musician, Andronikashvili was an active member of the Tbilisi branch of the Russian Musical Society. In 1889, he photographically documented composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky's visit to Tbilisi. These historic photographs are preserved in the Tchaikovsky House-Museum in Klin, Russia.
